Beyond Borders: a podcast on architecture and design

In this Basalte podcast, we explore how exceptional architecture takes shape through ideas, craftsmanship and lived experiences across the world.

What happens when two acclaimed architects meet? Glenn Sestig and Zafar Choudhary explore what gives architecture meaning, from instinct and culture to craftsmanship, materiality and restraint.

From Glenn’s intuitive approach to Zafar’s view of architecture as a spatial narrative, the conversation moves through the way spaces are shaped, experienced and remembered.

They reflect on the evolving meaning of luxury, the role of cultural context and the pursuit of an elevated human experience. Technology becomes part of that same conversation, not as a visible statement, but as a quiet layer that supports comfort, atmosphere and everyday life.

Glenn Sestig, founder of Glenn Sestig Architects, is one of Belgium’s most renowned contemporary architects, recognised internationally for his distinctive and uncompromising design language. His work is defined by architectural precision, strong proportions and a refined use of materials, light and reflection.

From striking private residences to boutiques, galleries, yachts and hospitality spaces, Sestig creates architecture with a powerful sense of identity and timeless sophistication.

Zafar Choudhary founded ZHCollective | Habitat Architects in India in 1994, building a practice shaped by context, culture and the way people live. His approach places human experience at the centre of architecture, balancing contemporary design with local identity, craftsmanship and material richness.

Through projects in India and beyond, he explores how thoughtful spaces can create a deeper sense of comfort, belonging and meaning.

Originally designed in 1972 by Belgian architect Ivan Van Mossevelde for art collectors, Pavilion Sestig is a modernist concrete structure in Deurle, Belgium.

Carefully transformed by Glenn Sestig Architects, the pavilion retains its original character through its rounded corners, central courtyard and restrained material palette. As the setting for Beyond Borders, it offers a fitting backdrop for a conversation about architecture, design and the ideas that shape the way we live.
