Hidden among the greenery of Bonheiden, Belgium, House R by Ines Verhaegen Architects draws on the clarity of modernist architecture while creating a home that feels warm and inviting. Long horizontal lines and expansive glazing define its pavilion-like character, while concrete, timber and natural finishes bring texture and depth.
The residence unfolds through a deliberate play between privacy and openness. Towards the street, the architecture remains more enclosed and protective. Moving through the home, it gradually opens towards the garden, where generous glazing, slender aluminium profiles and continuous flooring blur the boundary between inside and out.
Within this carefully composed architecture, intelligent technology follows the same quiet logic. Basalte integrates naturally into the interior, bringing intuitive control to everyday moments without disturbing the visual calm.
modernism, softened by materiality
Dark timber and deep green marble bring richness and depth to the interior, softened by pale, textured walls and an abundance of daylight. The contrast gives the spaces warmth without losing the clarity of the architecture.

As daylight fades, the atmosphere changes with it. Integrated lighting quietly takes over, bringing warmth to the rooms and shaping different moments throughout the evening. Fixtures, ventilation and other technical elements remain discreetly absorbed into the architecture.

Finished in satin white, Sentido sits quietly against the pale interior walls rather than presenting itself as a technical element. Its minimal form follows the restraint found throughout the residence, while a gentle touch gives the inhabitants an intuitive way to shape the atmosphere of the room.
The same attention to detail continues in the matching satin white socket frames, creating a seamless visual language throughout the interior. Functional elements become part of the composition, carefully aligned with the materials and finishes around them.
